5th edition of the UNIMED Award

to remind you the Call for students' participation to the 5th edition of the UNIMED Award has been launched.

The UNIMED Award is a collateral prize to the Venice International Film Festival to be assigned by a jury of international students coming from UNIMED associated universities.

As for the previous edition, this 5th edition will be subject to the evolution of the current Covid-19 epidemic and to what is laid down in the next government decrees. The organizers of the Festival will closely follow the evolution of the current Covid-19 epidemic and reserve the right to change the way it is carried out according to the government provisions that will follow. At the moment the event is confirmed without any change.

The 78th edition of the Venice International Film Festival will be held from 1 to 11 September 2021 and I invite you to involve students from your university to be part of this international jury.

The UNIMED Award is part of the collaboration between UNIMED and la Biennale di Venezia, which is a significant recognition for our association. Indeed, la Biennale is one of the most important international contemporary art exhibitions and, in particular, the Venice Film Festival which take place within the exhibition, is one of the most prestigious international film festivals worldwide.

The UNIMED award will concur with other already-established awards and the jury will have one week to evaluate the movies and award the prize to the winner, according to the film’s sensitivity on the issues of cultural diversity and integration.

You can find some information on the previous editions and the films which won the prize at the following links: 2017 edition2018 edition2019 edition2020 edition.

In this framework, UNIMED gives the opportunity to students pursuing a degree in visual arts from one of its associated universities to be part of the jury. For that purpose, the deadline to send your students' applications has been extended to April 9th, 2021. I kindly ask you to send a roster of maximum 2 curricula among which identifying the most deserving students, whose candidatures will be evaluated in a second step by a committee.

As every year, UNIMED will cover the costs of food and local transport for students, while universities or students themselves are asked to contribute with travel cost and accommodation in Venice. However, we are looking for sponsorships to co-fund student participation and we will keep you updated if it will be possible to support students’ costs.

Further information on the selection of the jury, the role of its members and costs are included in the attachment.
